I am really not into writing reviews, but I strongly feel it is my civic duty to warn people. I fell for the deceptive marketing and we decided to buys two tickets for our 26th Wedding Anniversary and forked over $400 for two balcony tickets. This is a complete and utter sham. We have seen better performance at my daughters high school drama and dance competitions. However, the venue - Detroit Opera House was outstanding, which has been restored to its old glory. The Shen Yun ad features exquisite 3D computer generated images that are projected onto a screen in the background, where the dancers disappear into trapdoors and then appear in cartoon form on the screen. The dancing itself was uninspiring, felt like a low level Gymnastics training session with dancers in costumes while antient Chinese music piped in. Same dance routines with different costumes and a different propaganda story repeated a dozen times. It was torturous to have to sit through 3 hours of absolute misery! We have been to several different kinds of performances and have never, ever felt this bad. I would not recommend this to anyone, even my worst enemy. This is a major rip off, so do your homework before you buy. Buyer beware....

AN EXPENSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT
This was one of the most disappointing performance I've ever seen. A very expensive disappointment. The performers looked like really good cheer leaders, but nothing close to a professional performance. It was not interesting nor entertaining. Very over rated from the reviews I read. The only two things that were pleasant was the Dr. Phillips Center for Performing Arts in Orlando, Florida, and the costumes the performers wore. Seriously, don't waste your money.

The TV ads promise thousands of years of Chinese Culture but the performance is as much dogma about the cult, Falun Gong, that is behind the Shen Yun production. That's the hidden agenda you don't get until the performance. The Chinese government's persecution of Falun Gong is wrong. Ironically, it is that persecution that caused the group to essentially move to the US and create the Shen Yun performance group. I felt like we were trapped in a bad, unending episode of America's Got Talent. A competent but repetitive production.

WORST SHOW EVER
It’s all about Falun Gong. It’s all about politics. This show does not reflect anything about chinese culture. Do NOT go.

I was VERY disappointed. I saw the show several years ago and loved it. The costumes and dancing was amazing. So I was excited to go see it again last night. But I was VERY disappointed. The dancing was not good and only a few pretty costumes. The price was reasonable several years ago when I saw the production, but this time the prices were outrageous!!! Do not waste your time or money!!!!!

NOT FOR EVERYONE
My grown daughter and I attended the show this afternoon and left at the intermission. I will be kind and say this isn’t for everyone and in retrospect cannot believe many of the positive reviews were not fabricated. We were trying hard not to laugh and left as soon as possible. Save your money.

HOLY CRAP! THIS WAS PURE CRAP!
This show was among the worst performances I have ever seen of any kind. The set was non existent except for an interesting digital background that wore thin after a few of the numbers. The 'tenor' was a joke. His voice is reminiscent of a bleating sheep. The dancers were athletic, but artistically boring. With 2 exceptions (the Fairy Dance and Lost in Art), the performances were uninspired and not deserving of any credit. Finally, the political and religious (especially during the last 2 performances) of the evening were offensive. I wouldn't recommend this garbage to anyone and very much regret having wasted my time and money.
