Hadestown

Hadestown at The Citadel Theatre

Why see Hadestown?

Poetic and beguiling

After a stunning debut at New York Theatre's workshop last year, Anaiis Mitchell and Ben T. Matchstick's glorious reimagining of Orpheus' fabled quest to retrieve his beloved Eurydice from the depths of hell comes to Edmonton ahead of a rumored (and not least much anticipated,) Broadway bow.

First conceived as a concept album, this lyrical adaptation keeps the American folk sound and New Orleans Jazz infusion that envelopes Orpheus' journey, from the glittering moment he first falls for Eurydice on wide open plains to a battle with the suave ruler of the underworld Hades to regain his territory.

Patrick Page and Amber Gray will play Hades and Persephone, reprising their roles from the show's Off-Broadway premire, alongside Reeve Carney and T.V. Carpio as Orpheus and Eurydice.

Haddestown

My daughter and I saw the Sunday night performance and we blown away. She hasn’t stopped raving about it for three days. I went to by her the soundtrack and was surprised. The cast in Madison in my opinion was better that the broad version. The musicians were fantastic. Orpheus in particular vocally and performance stood out but the entire cast and musical accompaniments were outstanding. Thank you all for a wonderful experience:). ... Read more
